World Champions!!
You are expected to be prominent as a prominent at a prominent affair but the chances of sitting ringside with Don King at the Klitschko corner is something you have to savour! Two men fighting in a ring is for a lot of people barbaric and for others inexplicable, this was my first fight so I wanted to find out for myself. Blood is every where and the goading public is to an extent animalistic as memories of the film “Ben Hur” flash by, the audience wanted more blood, more action more danger, the fighters wanted victory and nothing else.
What drives a man that has already won the title “World Champion” to get back into the ring after years of retirement? Vitali was fighting the actual world champion, which was not going to be easy or was it? All the viewers felt that the fight was not as difficult for Vitali as it should have been but I have the feeling that all boxers are judged by their performance on their best day! Vitali was nervous and strong and defying and better on the day, Peters was no match for this tower from Kiev. There was a moment when Vitali hit Peters a punch I the face and you could see how time was standing still while peters gathered he’s thoughts which seemed to be swaying between consciousness to unconsciousness. It all sounds barbaric, screaming crowds, bleeding faces, world shaking punches and an eventual acceptance of defeat, it all sounds Barbaric but it wasn’t!! Turn off the screaming audience, turn down the blinding Hollywood lights, ignore the bleeding and resolve the power of a punch, both men stood tall and addressed each other with a confidence of decision, both men were there to decide between themselves who is the better in the ring! If you take away the obvious element of what is considered to be violence you could see a clear struggle between both men, both wanted to know who was the better man, who had the stronger punch, who had the better strategy who would be champion?
There are so many unrighteous platforms where those who are forced to perform would choose another life, those who are forced to fight would choose another life, those who are forced to defend something they do not believe in would choose another life but there are those who choose this life they lead and want the answer to the question am I the best, am I good enough to be the best? And if you could switch off the cameras and just stood back you could see that with the tears of the defeated and the tears of the new champion that no one had forced these men to fight just as no one had forced them to perform, one wanted to defend he’s title and the other wanted the answer am I the best! As Wladimir saw that he’s brother was champion, he jumped with the joy of a child he’s brother had been released of the burden of not knowing and the audience celebrated a fight they considered to be lacking action! I left knowing that you come to a fight and you leave knowing the answer that to be a champion you have to want it more than the other boxer you have to be more scared, more defying, more hungry for a title reserved only for “World Champions”.
